Skin care regimen

Skin care has been a popular topic of conversation amongst my girlfriends and I; more so in the past year.  Not to say I'm old, but I'm definitely outgrowing my youthful skin.  In the past couple of years, I've noticed more fine lines, freckles and the overall health of my skin.

What better time to take care of your skin than now.  We need to be proactive in taking preventative measures; well that's what I keep telling myself.

I've been breaking out around my chin lately and on Sunday morning I woke up with a HUGE PIMPLE on my chin.  It's huge, red, painful and irritating.  You can thank this stupid pimple for inspiring to write about taking good care of your skin.

I absolutely love my Clarisonic brush especially the fact that it's pink ( I had bought it during breast cancer awareness month).  I love that it's timed and beeps when it's time to move on to the next part of your face.  I don't put on much make up on a daily basis, so I wash my face first and then use my Clarisonic brush to do a final run through in picking up all the excess dirt.  After each use,  I notice how much smoother my skin feels and looks.  Not only that, but I also noticed that my skin is more absorbent to face creams. A little dab goes a longer way. Every female should own one of these!

What I also love about the Clarisonic brush is the fact that you can use just about any type of facial cleaner.  I've already used up all the Fresh Soy Face Cleaner, which is great by the way, so I'm now using Cetaphil.  I love that it's gentle with no beads, as exfoliating beads can sometimes cause break outs.  I highly recommend this cleanser, as it's been gentle on my skin and has not caused any sort of break outs.  I was using one with exfoliating beads before and it definitely caused my face to break out, not realizing what the problem was until after I stopped using it.

This was gifted to me by my big sis and I use it as part of my day time skin regimen.  You always need to moisturize your skin  I put it on my cleaned face every morning before I apply anything on.  It helps hydrate my skin to prevent wrinkles and I also think it serves to help set in my make up.  I swear it works great under my bare minerals and adds a glow to my skin.  Since I have combination skin, I like really really light moisturizers that do not leave my face feeling super oily or greasy.  This is perfect as it seems more like a gel base than lotion base, which feels lighter and not greasy at all.  I also love that there's not scent; great for sensitive skin.

Make sure you do not forget to put on sun screen.  No matter how gloomy the weather is outdoors, always put this on; yes, everyday.  I am born with freckles, so it's crucial for me to prevent anymore from forming on my face.  My sister nor my brother have freckles, not sure why I was stuck with the freckles gene.  I've noticed that as I've grown older my cheeks and nose have grown more freckles; some look like sun spots.  Let me tell you this..it's definitely not cute.

I spent hours at Sephora, sampling, reading and testing out each sun screen to find the perfect one.  After much evaluation, I decided to get this.  I don't like the feel of anything thick or greasy on my skin, so I made sure it was something light but was still able to do the work.  I also tend to notice that some sun screen leave a white flaky residue on your face, which was something I did not like.  This is light, does not leave a white residue with barely any scent; well not strong enough for it to bother me.

DDF: Sulfur Therapeutic Mask
I only use this when I notice a break out on my face.  You're only supposed to use this once a week, but I use it as needed.   It helps shrink any HUGE, red and irritating pimples and dries it out.  I definitely used this last night and will probably use it again over my pimple.  It has a really pungent smell, but if you can get past it, I think it's worth the investment.  My fashionista, beauty consultant coworker introduced this to me over a year ago and I have been using it since.  Since I don't use it on a regular basis, this tub has lasted me quite some time now.

I got this box of goodies (which includes a travel size eye balm, regenerative anti aging lotion and the concentrated reconstructing serum) from my big sis for xmas and the complete eye renewal balm from my bff  and I am absolutely in love with this product.  I received little sample packets from my big sis who works for Algenist (Beauty line for Solazyme, a biotech company) and loved it.  The reconstructing serum is absolutely light.  If you've noticed my trend, I tend to like wearing things that are pretty light and oil free.  The eye cream is also very light with a slight cooling affect.  What I love about this product is the fact that it was accidentally discovered by scientists who were experimenting to create a microalgae-based renewable energy fuel.  In its process, alguronic acid, the ingredient used in their product to regenerate our skin, was discovered.  Read more about this brand here: Algenist.  Once I hit my 3 month mark, I'll write more about the results I see.  As for now, it has not caused any break outs or skin irritations.

Funday Sundays

Sundays are not as much of a drag now that football season is over. and it's actually been quite festive for the past few weeks.  I spend most of my weekends at the Bf's and for the past few Sundays, it's been spent with delicious food and his family.  It's just so lively and fun.  The kids are jumping around and full of energy, the dogs are running around seeking for attention, laughter all around and always more than enough food for everyone.

We spent the afternoon grubbing to some delicious home made beef pho and laughing to stories from the night before. (Oh that reminds me of college years/ girls trip, where we'd wake up chatting away to the funny stories from a night of fun and debauchery). Oh those youngin' years.

We had spent Saturday evening with close friends and family to a nice dinner at Alexander's Steakhouse and then the lounge at the W Hotel in celebration to Henry's birthday.  Let's just say birthday boy had fun, so much fun that he passed out at the W Hotel; thank you Hudson and Brian! I ended up driving the Tran brothers home.

Nadine and I shared the porterhouse and we didn't even finish our portions. It's a huge entree.

Cheers to a night filled with great food, fabulous cake and wonderful company!

Purple Kow on a sunny saturday

Another beautiful day in the city.  It was too nice of a day not to step foot outside to get some vitamin D.  My legs haven't seen sunlight since my trip to Cabo San Lucas, so it was nice throwing on a sun dress.

I love my Sperry's.  It's comfortable and matches with almost everything I throw on.  Sunglasses on because I didn't feel like putting on any make up.
We stepped out to get some tapioca at Purple Kow.  I know I said it's not worth the hype or the wait, but we figured something out to make it work.  We called in our order.  We had initially thought that by calling in an order (we called in 6), it would be ready by the time we got there.  If not for me calling in one more order, I would not have known that they don't make the phone orders until you step into the store.  They like to make everything fresh and stated that it would only take 5 minutes after we pay.  I questioned the girl who answered the phone and informed her I was 5 minutes away (I was really about 10 minutes away), she said they'd get started on it.  After arriving and paying for our drinks, we still waited about 10 minutes before we got our drinks.  In conclusion, it's better to just call in an order and make sure they make it when you're in close proximity.  It tastes better when you don't have to wait 45 minutes.

Tonight we'll be celebrating Henry's birthday to some good meat at Alexander's steakhouse and fancy drinks at the W Hotel.  Currently still full, hope I'm hungry by dinner time! Since my last visit here back in January for Sophia's birthday, I've been craving those hamachi shots, I can't wait to get that again.

It's looking a lot like Spring

San Franciscans have been pretty lucky the past few days, as the skies have been clear and the sun has been out.  It's been gorgeous out with minimal breeze. Days like these should be spent outdoors and not indoors.  I definitely could have spent the day outside soaking up some sun.  Even with one doc out of the office, it was a busy busy Friday for me.

Work load

Outfit of the day! A nice light and white blouse with a  faux fur sweater vest and jegging pants.  Sheer enough blouse for air to flow through it, but also kept warm with the vest.

Yogurt from Cultive
Nice days deserves a nice treat. This chained yogurt store started in Davis, CA.  I remember when I used to frequent this spot in Davis a few times a week.  I loved the place and was almost always craving it.  I was definitely on some kind of yogurt hype.  I still like yogurt, but not like before.  I went on a journey to find the best yogurt place in San Francisco.  Nothing came close at the time, but now there are so many yogurt places all over San Francisco.  Anyway, it was a nice little treat. Yum!

TGIF!! Enjoy the sun while it lasts!

CelebrationS

The sun was out, it was warm and I just knew today was going to be a good day.

There's a lot to celebrate today, well actually in the coming weeks! I'm pretty excited, but first things first.  TODAY!

Sad that Jenn will be leaving our team, but happy for her in so many ways.  It's not a farewell lunch, but a good luck and let's cherish the last moments we have with her lunch. We chowed down to some delicious grub at Suzu and finished off with dessert at Sophie's Crepes. Yum...Strawberries, bananas, nutella crepe with green tea ice cream.  It was just perfect for the sunny weather.

I got her a belated bday gift from BR. I just thought it'd be perfect for her to wear at her new job.  It's trendy, comfy and simple and would look really good with a blazer or a cardigan over it.  Hope she liked it.

Today was also the BF's bday and first day at his new job!!  What better way to celebrate a special occasion than a nice dinner at one of San Francisco's top places to eat.

BENU!! Tasting menu for two.  A dragged out 3+ hour dinner, that was worth every minute.  The food is creative, innovative, delicious and just beautiful.

Check out our dining adventure here.
Taken right outside of the restaurant.  It was too perfect of a scenery to pass up on taking a picture here. Love the shot, the background and the lighting.

It was a wonderful experience dining here and I would definitely recommend this restaurant for those who are looking for something unique and have an open mind.  You will not regret because not only is there food amazing, their service is just as impressive.  It's a great place to celebrate something special!

Shop til you drop!

I have done more shopping in the past week than I have in the past couple of months.  As I've previously mentioned, I had a pretty successful shopping weekend.  Today adds another successful day.  I was good and didn't spend anything on myself.  Shopping for presents for others can be a drag, especially when you're scratching your head trying to find the perfect gift for them.  It was easy today; I went to the mall and picked up the perfect gifts.  We even had time to do some window shopping.

I can't wait to show you all the gifts we got! Super cute!

I had no idea they had opened up a new F21 that is located at the old Tower Records. I saw these really cute mint green jeans on display and decided to go in to see if they had my size, which they didn't.  I did not really get to scope the place out, but it seemed really big and spacious.  I can't wait to revisit the place.

Oh I've also been obsessed with the plum/ purple color lately.

Essie's Merino Cool
Definitely looks better in person.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Tuesday! Mine wasn't too shabby!

Prez Day Monday!

Today I am thankful for the extra day we got to sleep in.  It was a much needed Monday off from work, since my last three have not been the most enjoyable.

I love three day weekends for several reasons: 1) We get one more day to chillax. 2) I get to spend more time with the bf. 3) The upcoming work week is one day shorter. 4) There are usually sales going on at dept stores, which means shopping! 5) I have an extra day to run errands or do chores that is supposed to be completed during the weekend.

Highlights from my 3 day weekend:

  1. I had a successful shopping weekend.  Not only did I find some great deals, I also got two gifts and a dress for my birthday!  I usually hate shopping and never find what I want or need, but that was definitely not the case this weekend!  I got a bunch of great stuff from H&M, my dress from Foreign Exchange, cute spring skirt from f21, KB socks from Costco and dark denims from BR!
  2. Great dinner date at Acquerello!

My absolute favorite dish of the night: Riged Pasta with foie gras and black truffle.  Both ordered 4 courses each.  Henry ordered 4 food dishes, as I ordered 3 food dishes and 1 dessert.  When this dish came out for Henry, they were nice enough to give me a little tasting portion as well, so I didn't feel left out! Henry and I were sharing everything anyway and I was so taken back when they came out with a tasting for me too. And boy was I glad they did because it was fingerlicking good.  Definitely one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had.  I'm still dreaming about it. Yum!  More on our dining adventure here.

Feels like I haven't dressed up on a date in awhile.  Went with a nice black dress, with a sexy back design and my leopard print belt.  Finally got to wear the red bottoms that Henry had gotten me for Xmas.  They were getting dusty and I think Henry got a little offended because I haven't worn them since he gave it to me.  Also sporting the nice new purse I received as a Vday/ Bday gift! <3 him and I love it!

Delicious biscottis they had gifted us to take home.  I ate it for breakfast the next day and it was so freaking good that I wish I had another box!
  3. Dinner at Shabu House.  I don't love it or crave it as much as some of my nearest and dearests, but I definitely wanted it more since we couldn't get it Friday night.  It was the perfect way to end our Sunday night.  Of course, I got my usual ginger chicken broth, while the boys feasted to their Spicy Miso.

  4. I finally got to try Purple kow and see what the hype was all about.  Yes, it was good.  Yes, the portion size was HUGE (it took me 5 hours to finish it).  Yes, you get your bang for your buck.  But NO, it was not worth waiting for 1 hour.  I would not wait that long for it again.  Customer service is horrible and their staff seem to be so disorganized.  I would be just as satisfied getting my tapioca at Wonderful Foods on Irving; there's no wait, the sizes are not ridiculously large and it's just as good.

  5. Got our Shanghai food fix at Shanghai Dumpling King a few blocks away from Purple Kow!

Spicy wonton: my favorite thing we ordered there. The spicy sauce was mixed with what seemed like peanut sauce and it was just perfect!  More on our dining adventure here.

Lazy comfy Monday outfit: New sweater from H&M with the only pair of jeans I had at Henrys in my comfy Moccasin Sperry's. New purse from my love; very versatile. I wore this bag the whole weekend while dressed up and dressed down, because I'm not good with switching bags.  Oh sunglasses on because I had a make up less face.
Feeling artsy in the car.
