Beijing: Day 2

Our itinerary for day two in Beijing was to visit Tiananmen Sqaure and explore the Forbidden City! Of course I was excited to visit some of China's oldest and most historic places.  I remember reading and learning about the Tiananmen Square Massacre of 1989 and the Forbidden City, but to actually step foot there was definitely a whole different experience for me.

If you're looking for a destination that will blow you away with its history and culture, Beijing is definitely the place.  I would not call it a beautiful city because it is still not that as developed as what we have in the states, but I think that's what makes Beijing so special.  It still holds some of China's most historic buildings and that is definitely worth seeing.

I've never been too fascinated with any of my social studies or history classes, but our tour guide really brought new light into my eyes.  Gary, our tour guide, knew so many facts of places, people and events of not only of China's history, but even of the United States.  I felt somewhat ashamed to not know half the amount of information he knew.  Anyhow, I made it a new years resolution for me to learn more about my culture's history!

Buffet breakfast every morning!  This is how we started our morning.

I had to wrap my scarf around my face, almost everyday.  Yes, it was THAT cold.
M
Men in uniform. Sexy, no?  They were all marching in sync, I just had to get a pic of them.

Yay, I'm at Tiananmen Square
About to enter the Imperial Palace
Inside the Forbidden City

The first telephone ever in China!
Emperor's bedroom in the Imperial Palace.  A lot less fancy than I had imagined it to be.
